LIES BOX

While attempting to clear out my studio I found a few left over art boxes from the Werbepause subvertising exhibition I co-curated in Berlin in 2022. The NUKE box, below, has been on my website shop before, a limited edition of 70. But there were substantially fewer LIES boxes, only enough for an edition of 12 so to make it fair I’m only offering them for sale from 18:00 today. One per person! Order here.

OCCUPATION

Football is incredibly popular in Palestine but the occupation makes it difficult to flourish. The Palestine national team faces restrictions on travel and dozens of its most promising players have been frequently imprisoned, injured, permanently disabled, and killed after attacks and raids by Israeli forces. In 2014 two young national team players Jawhar Nasser and Adam Halabiya were shot repeatedly in the feet and legs near an Israeli checkpoint in occupied Palestine. Palestinian football stadiums and fields have been bombed by Israeli forces and sections of the separation wall were built down the middle of the pitch at Abu Dis campus of Al-Quds University.

HELL BUS AT SHELL HQ

I brought the Hell Bus down to Shell HQ today with Joe Lycett. Parked it outside for almost an hour while the staff inside went into a self-imposed lockdown. The bus was being filmed for a new documentary Joe is making about Shell’s greenwashing PR, which will be out later this month. More details when I have them! The bus will be going to Glasgow for COP26 at the end of the month, and the exhibition inside is still under construction. I’m posting regular updates of my DIY nightmares over on my Instagram story.

POLICE PROTEST SIGN

My sign at the #KillTheBill May Day protest in London (Photo by Joe Kibria). ‘Blue bib’ cops at protests are there to gather intelligence on protesters which the police then use against protest movements. The Police monitoring organisation Netpol found evidence from FOI requests that ‘Police Liaison Officers’ at protests are trained in intelligence gathering, and information they acquired through friendly chats at protests has been later used in prosecutions against peaceful protesters. The nationwide protests were about the dystopian police powers in the new Police, Crime, Sentencing and Courts Bill currently being pushed by the government. It would outlaw any protest which caused ‘serious annoyance’, i.e every protest worth its salt, would expand attacks on Gypsy, Roma and Traveller communities and increase already misused stop and search powers. Photo: Lucy Brisbane This photo looks like we’re talking but I was just waiting for him to finish asking his question before I tapped the sign again. (Photo by: Yushy)

DISCARD AFTER SINGLE-USE

Here’s a surfboard I painted for Project 0‘s art auction to raise money for mangrove restoration in the Caribbean. You can bid here. Unfortunately I had to pull out of the launch exhibition for the auction as I only found out last minute the show was sponsored by Sky TV. I’m against all attempts at corporate greenwashing because it promotes the idea that consuming one brand over another can save the planet and that corporations care about these issues when they don’t. But its the involvement of Sky in particular which is really galling as the company is part-owned (and soon to be fully-owned) by Rupert Murdoch, who uses his TV channels and newspapers to push climate-change denial and anti-renewable energy propaganda worldwide.

ART THE ARMS FAIR

I’ve new work in The Opening Night of Art the Arms Fair group show on Monday. Cassetteboy is playing too. Tickets are available from artthearmsfair.com or the event page above. All proceeds go to Campaign Against Arms Trade . This Thomas the Tank sculpture will be on sale as well as a bunch of prints, comics & postcards to raise enough money to really #stopDSEI next time. We’ve also just heard that some stands setting up at the DSEI arms fair are up to 4 days behind schedule thanks to the actions of everyone who have been helping Stop The Arms Fair. Anyone who has put on any kind of exhibition before knows that being even one day behind schedule is a nightmare. I’m so happy.
