The duty for sailors to rescue those in distress at sea is both international maritime law and a long-standing and strongly felt moral obligation among seafarers. The fact that British and European governments are now criminalising such a basic and instinctive act of humanity says a lot about how absolutely Fortress Europe is spiraling into barbarism.⁠ A new British law brought in by the Tories now threatens lifeguards in the @RNLI, (and anyone else at sea), with life in prison for rescuing refugees drowning in the English channel. ⁠Quite heroically the RNLI have made a statement that this will not change how they respond to those in distress.

I started adding these stickers to the products of companies who help fund racist propaganda by advertising in the Daily Mail. IBM AND THE HOLOCAUST

A poster I designed about IBM’s direct role in the Holocaust has gone up across New York, inc opposite the headquarters of IBM North America. The research on which this poster was based on was from Edwin Black’s excellent, yet harrowing book ‘IBM and the Holocaust‘. Thomas J Watson, CEO of IBM at the time even received a medal from Hitler for his services to the Third Reich. Watson himself directly profited from the Holocaust, taking 1% on all IBM profits. IBM have named one of their current AI projects ‘Watson’ in honour of him.⁣ For unsettling added context, the IBM HQ is neighbours with Trump Tower

MINI DAILY MAIL GIVEAWAY

The project was inspired by the departure of Paul Dacre as editor of the Mail, a toxic influence on British life for 26 years. The Daily Mail is without doubt one of the most racist, sexist and homophobic far-right publications on the market, beaten only by the BNP annual newsletter.

I MADE A HORRID LITTLE NEWSPAPER

As the final part of my artist residency with RRUNews in Liverpool, I’ve hand-drawn a fun/fear-sized version of the Daily Mail and I’m going to be giving these out for free in Liverpool city centre tomorrow (Thursday) and Friday from these locations: THURSDAY 10:30am-12:30pm St Johns’s Shopping Centre 1:30pm-3:30pm Outside News From Nowhere FRIDAY10:30am-12:30pm Lord Street 1:30pm-3:30pm Bluecoat Courtyard, Ropewalks Square Depending on how many I give out I’m also going to look into making the paper available after generally or getting it reprinted. The card sets out a new pricing system for advertisers, in which they can pay more to have their advert placed directly next to the most attention grabbing terror stories.
