MUSEUM CLOSING PARTY

Due to high demand I’m going to open the Museum of Neoliberalism for three final days this week before I’m finally kicked out of my studio, ending with a closing party on Saturday night. Museum open this week Thurs-Sat, 26th-28th Sept. 11am-7pm Party on Saturday from 8.30pm til late. All welcome. Also on Saturday from 7-8.30 is a small event where I’ll be interviewing Ralph Billington, a local 88 year-old self-described revolutionary socialist and artist, and showing an exhibition of his artwork. CARBON CAPTURE AT THE SCIENCE MUSEUM – BROUGHT TO YOU BY SHELL

Some impromptu new exhibits appeared today as part of the Shell-sponsored carbon capture exhibition at the Science Museum, London. ⁠ I thought it was weird that an exhibition about carbon capture, paid for by an oil company, didn’t once mention that 81% of all the carbon *ever* captured by this technology has been used by oil companies and pumped back into oil wells to help extract more oil. Seems like a significant omission (ok yes we can call it a ‘carbon omission’) Also thought it was weird that the exhibition didn’t mention that oil corporations are some of the biggest investors in carbon capture and storage (CCS) technology. No doubt because of how useful it is to them in getting more oil out of the ground, while being able to pass it off as a ‘green technology’ for tax breaks and marketing purposes. But now at least, for a time, the Science Museum exhibition does mention those things, as well featuring a great new idea about a super useful product to turn all that captured carbon into.

BERLIN EXHIBITION

Next month is the opening of an exhibition about subvertising I’ll be co-curating at Kunstraum Kreuzberg in Berlin. The opening night is on Friday 17th, 5pm-11pm. All welcome. There will be DJs and drinks. I’ll be exhibiting some new and old work in the show alongside a ton of incredible artists. The other curators and myself are hoping to show much of the history and techniques of anti-advertising artwork and the ongoing creative resistance to the commodification of both public space and the space inside your head. The exhibition runs from 18th June-21st August 2022. More details on the Kunstraum Kreuzberg website. HELL BUS ON JOE LYCETT

This weekend is the launch of a Museum of Neoliberalism I’ve co-curated with Gavin Grindon, at The World Transformed 2019 festival in Brighton. Tickets are still available, but if you can’t make it I’ll be posting photos next week. We also hope to show it elsewhere, including at WAR Gallery, and have been thinking about it as a starting point, and a sort of prototype for, The Thatcher Museum I was banging on about a few years ago. I’ll also be talking at the ‘Subvertising Symposium’ at The World Transformed on Sunday alongside Ad Block Bristol, Matt Bonner, Michelle Tylicki and Dog Section Press.

GREAT WAR

Very happy to say my ‘Great War’ print has been acquired by the Victoria and Albert Museum for their poster collection. They have the original 1915 poster already so it should make for a good companion piece. It appeared in bus stops last year as part of a project in collaboration with Veterans For Peace UK marking 100 years since the end of the senseless slaughter of WWI. NUCLEAR MUSEUM

I was quoted in this article about two of my anti-Trident posters being featured in the National Museum of the Royal Navy’s new permanent exhibition about nuclear weapons. Read it here. “Museums are an important record of the peaks and troughs of human civilisation. I hope this exhibition is housed deep enough to survive the Royal Navy’s plan to destroy civilisation entirely if Britain loses a war.” “Nuclear bombs are suicide bombs – it is impossible to use these weapons without also killing ourselves.
