HELL IN THE NIGER DELTA – DOCUMENTARY

I put together a short documentary about my visit to Nigeria for the first Niger Delta climate change conference organised by Lekeh Development Foundation (LEDEF). See my previous post about the trip here. One of the most polluted areas on the planet, the Niger Delta has a life expectancy of just 41 years due to decades of Shell oil spills & constant gas flaring. As part of the conference we visited two Shell oil spill sites in Eleme and K-Dere, Ogoniland, to see first hand some of the horrors that Shell has unleashed on this part of the world for over 65 years. The Eleme spill occurred in June 2023, K-Dere was in 2020, and is still untreated as of August 2023.

SHELL IN NIGER DELTA

Yesterday I visited two Shell oil spill sites in the Niger Delta with Ogoni climate activists from Lekeh Development Foundation, local community leaders, and West African climate experts. It might be the saddest and most enraging thing I have ever seen. While there I filmed Ogoni community leaders, activists, students and doctors, explaining the situation and the suffering of these communities, and captured footage of the ecological devastation Shell and other oil companies have brought to their homes. See my story for one of these videos, the rest I need time to edit and upload.

OMNI-YACHT

The 26 richest individuals have hoarded more wealth than the poorest 3.5 billion people on the planet. When we talk about building a sustainable economy we usually mean environmental sustainability, but exponentially increasing inequality is also fundamentally unsustainable. “As I like to say to my American hedge fund friends, the Hamptons is not a defensible position. The Hamptons is a very rich area on Long Island that lie along low-lying beaches. Very hard to defend a low-lying beach. Eventually people will come for you.” – Mark Blyth

DEFUND THE DAILY MAIL

I started adding these stickers to the products of companies who help fund racist propaganda by advertising in the Daily Mail. If you’d like to get involved, you can download & print your own stickers or order pre-printed stickers here. The Daily Mail is one of the most vicious and dangerous purveyors of racist propaganda in the UK, and that danger spreads globally through its website. But like the rest of the media, the Mail’s ability to churn out racial hatred, misogyny and anti-LGBT bigotry is only made possible by the support of its advertisers. 300% BACKED

My mini Daily Mail is now 300% backed on Kickstarter, raising over £8000 for a reprinted edition with 8 new pages (and a few fixed typos). Thanks so much to everyone who has backed it so far. The crowdfunding campaign ends on Sunday evening. I was also very happy for the project to have received the backing of Pat Mills, founder of 2000AD, writer of Charley’s War, and co-creator of Judge Dredd. It’s been a good day! #DailyMail

MINI DAILY MAIL GIVEAWAY

Get a copy here: www.minidailymail.co.uk. I’ve been handing out these hand-drawn miniature Daily Mail newspapers on the streets of Liverpool. The project was inspired by the departure of Paul Dacre as editor of the Mail, a toxic influence on British life for 26 years. The Daily Mail is without doubt one of the most racist, sexist and homophobic far-right publications on the market, beaten only by the BNP annual newsletter.

#DROPTHEMETRO

Get stickers: www.spellingmistakescostlives.com/metro The Metro newspaper is owned by the Daily Mail and every copy that’s picked up helps support the UK’s most extreme right-wing publication, (second only to the BNP annual newsletter.) As part of my residency with RRU News I’ve had 2000 of these stickers printed that you can help me add to Metro distribution points around the country. Hopefully these might make some people think twice about picking one up. If you’d like some stickers, they’re free +p&p. Link: www.spellingmistakescostlives.com/metro Help me stink up the Metro brand by showing their readers the extremist organisation behind it. Order as many stickers as you think you can get out there. Thank you! Music by UOKAYE https://www.soundcloud.com/uokaye #News #DailyMail #Subvertising

PAT MILLS: THE POLITICS OF 2000AD

I was lucky enough to meet Pat Mills at Glasgow Comic Con (founder of 2000AD & writer of Charley’s War, Judge Dredd etc) and was surprised and honoured to find out he likes my work. Here he is giving a great talk recently (starts: 2:49) about the politics of comics & 2000AD and at the end gives a hearty plug for both Join the Army and the Action Man: Battlefield Casualties films which I made with director Price James, et al.

ACTION MAN: BATTLEFIELD CASUALTIES ON SKY NEWS

Just uploaded this clip from last year when Action Man: Battlefield Casualties was on Sky News with Veterans for Peace UK members Kieran Devlin and Ben Griffin eloquently putting the case for why the UK should raise the age of recruitment to 18, while the Ministry of Defence fielded the former head of the army Richard Dannatt to counter our vile and unpatriotic accusations.

ACTION MAN: BATTLEFIELD CASUALTIES

Three short films made in collaboration with Veterans for Peace UK to draw attention to Britain’s policy of recruiting 16 and 17 year olds into the armed forces and targeting children with recruitment propaganda. The Action Man: Battlefield Casualties film I wrote for Veterans for Peace UK, directed by Price James (Agile Films) and featuring Matt Berry was released in June 2015. It directed viewers to a purpose-built website battlefieldcasualties.co.uk which contained all the facts about child recruitment in the British armed forces and details about our MP letter writing campaign to try and end it. TABLE OF CONTENTS Action Man poster and postcards available. The films are based on the below fake toys I made while drawing Join the Army, an anti-army recruitment comic. The toys were included as a poster in the “Deluxe” edition. JOIN THE ARMY LINK

THE MEAT PLANET

Over the last few months I’ve been editing together this documentary about The Meat Planet with my old pal Mark Tolson. Unfortunately, it is now completely finished and available to view by small children on the Internet. We have also collated some very important scientific data on The Meat Planet which we have uploaded for your displeasure. #Science #MeatPlanet #Film
