SAVE OUR SOULS

The duty for sailors to rescue those in distress at sea is both international maritime law and a long-standing and strongly felt moral obligation among seafarers. The fact that British and European governments are now criminalising such a basic and instinctive act of humanity says a lot about how absolutely Fortress Europe is spiraling into barbarism. A new British law brought in by the Tories now threatens lifeguards in the @RNLI, (and anyone else at sea), with life in prison for rescuing refugees drowning in the English channel. Quite heroically the RNLI have made a statement that this will not change how they respond to those in distress.

AMAZON BLUE YONDER

I drew this on the day of Jeff Bezos’ first sub orbital space flight in 2021. I hoped it would be a premonition, but maybe we’ll get lucky if Elon ever takes a ride in one of his own rockets. One pretty funny thing about those idiotic tourist flights is that they put Captain Kirk on one of them to help promote the venture and he came back utterly depressed. Here’s what he said when he got back- William Shatner: “The other folks went straight into somersaults and enjoying all the effects of weightlessness. I wanted no part in that. I wanted, needed to get to the window as quickly as possible to see what was out there. “I love the mystery of the universe. I love all the questions that have come to us over thousands of years of exploration and hypotheses… all of that has thrilled me for years… but when I looked in the opposite direction, into space, there was no mystery, no majestic awe to behold… all I saw was death. “It was among the strongest feelings of grief I have ever encountered. The contrast between the vicious coldness of space and the warm nurturing of Earth below filled me with overwhelming sadness. Every day, we are confronted with the knowledge of further destruction of Earth at our hands: the extinction of animal species, of flora and fauna . . . things that took five billion years to evolve, and suddenly we will never see them again because of the interference of mankind. It filled me with dread. My trip to space was supposed to be a celebration; instead, it felt like a funeral.” Fair play to Shatner for laying out the facts. Jeff Bezos, a man who shares far more responsibility for the destruction of […]

GREAT NEWS FOR LANDLORDS

UPDATE: After sending this out in my mailing list I got a reply from an ex-landlord who’s email I seem to have accidentally added to the list, asking how much the rent meter would cost to install and if it was legal. (see below) Btw if you’re not a landlord and would like to voluntarily sign up for my mailing list you can do so here!

CLIENT JOURNALISM

I had to leave some of the most obsequious client journalists out of this or else I’d be painting hacks for the rest of my life. This idea came from my hobby of adding examples of client journalism to the subtitles of a screenshot of Ri Chun-hee, the famous North Korean news presenter. BONUS CONTENT: Tom Harper, client journalist at The Sunday Times explaining what his job is.

SUVs

An anti-SUV poster I drew before the lockdown. It seems a lot of people buy SUV’s under the impression these giant city-tractors will protect their children on the school-run, but that comes at the cost of pedestrian safety. You’re twice as likely to die being hit by an SUV than you are by any other car. Their height also creates a blind spot around the car which has caused countless horrific accidents involving small children. The safety for the occupants of SUVs is also an illusion. They’re twice as likely to roll in crashes and you’re 11% more likely to die in a crash in a SUV than a normal car. In Europe, sales of SUVs continue to increase; from 7% of the market in 2009 to 36% in 2019. They are forecast to reach nearly 40% by 2021.

RAVENS

Just finished this mythologically seditious poster. If you’re not familiar with the story, it’s said that if the ravens leave the Tower of London the British Empire will fall and the monarchy will collapse. There are a minimum of 6 ravens in the Tower at all times, with one ‘spare’. In the interests of national security, their wings are clipped to keep them off balance so it’s hard for them to fly away. In the type of preposterousness that can only be found in Britain, the ravens are officially enlisted as British soldiers and can be dismissed for undisciplined conduct or desertion. In the 1980s, “Raven George”, a suspected comrade, was retired to Wales for attacking and destroying TV aerials. In 1996 two more Ravens were dismissed for “conduct unbecoming”, which if you know any soldiers, you can only imagine how bad the conduct would have to be for that to happen. Ravens are incredibly smart and likely frustrated by captivity. Two of the ravens separately figured out that they could cause havoc by playing dead, which I would like to think of as a form of protest. Over the years, some have successfully escaped, but more recently, only one raven named Munin managed to make a break for it, before being caught by an awful member of the public and returned to his prison. I’m doing some limited edition prints, available here.

BLOODY SUNDAY

Extended Bayuex Tapestry: Bloody Sunday. Bloody Sunday was a massacre on 30th January 1972 in Derry, Northern Ireland, when British soldiers from the Parachute Regiment shot 26 unarmed civilians during a civil rights protest march. 14 people died, 7 of them teenagers. Many of the victims were shot while fleeing from the soldiers, and some were shot while trying to help the wounded. Other protesters were injured by shrapnel, rubber bullets or batons, and two were run down by army vehicles. The initial tribunal into the killings was a whitewash and exonerated the soldiers of any wrongdoing, claiming the protesters had been armed. Decades later the Saville Inquiry (no relation) found the killings had been unjustified and unjustifiable. As of 2020 only one soldier (Soldier F) is to face charges for the massacre. Prints of this are available.

TERFS HATE WHALES

You may remember I painted the below image last year and auctioned the original on ebay to raise money for the anti-whale hunting charity Sea Shepherd UK. It was inspired by the actual signs Japanese whalers hold up while they’re being photographed poaching whales in the South Atlantic. But there was a problem; that charity auction was sabotaged, deliberately, and not by a pro-whaler, but by an anti-trans activist who was furious I didn’t want to talk to him about his horrible anti-trans opinions anymore. He put in the highest bid, then refused to pay, all so he could write a negative review, which is deleted by ebay anyway if a bidder doesn’t pay so the whole exercise was pointless and hurt nobody except a few sea creatures. This confused me. What on earth did anti-trans activists have against whales? Do terfs hate whales now too? But then I realised: it’s because the ocean is a gender-neutral toilet, and they’re furious about it. So I decided to do another whale painting (above), and I’ll be auctioning this one off for the UK trans charity Sparkle, as well a re-auctioning the first painting for Sea Shepherd UK. I’m running both auctions on ebay now. 100% of the final selling price goes towards each charity. Links: The Ocean Is A Gender-Neutral Toilet “I’m Okay With This” I’m also doing the gender-neutral toilet image as a limited-edition print with 50% of proceeds going to Sparkle.

LAKES COMIC FESTIVAL

Very happy to be a guest at The Lakes International Comic Art Festival this year. I’ll be doing an exhibition and a couple of events, as well as a stall. JAPANESE WHALING

Painted this last night based on the signs Japanese whalers hold up when being photographed from the air by Greenpeace. I’m selling the original of this on eBay to raise money for Sea Shepherd UK, who put their bodies on the line in direct actions against whaling and other sea life poaching. You can bid here. Although I don’t think it can beat the absurdity of the actual signs Japanese whalers hold up when being photographed (see below)

THE NATIONAL ANTHEM IS A LIE

The English national anthem is a lie.⠀God never saved any of them.⠀⠀It’s also an objectively terrible and obsequious national jingle, and if we’re going to have any pretence whatsoever that England doesn’t just consider the rest of the UK its mini-empire then the UK should have a different national song to England. The fact Northern Ireland has this as its anthem is just plain tragic.⠀⠀ Fun fact: the British armed forces swear allegiance to protect the Queen, not the country, not the people, not even the government.⠀⠀ King Charles will be our best chance at a British republic and we can reclaim the enormous Crown Estate, land confiscated from the people since the invasion of William the Conqueror. ⠀The royals can still kick around and tourists can still come look at the palaces, they’ll just have to make their living as celebrities rather than parasites on the state.
